Zhangjiagang, China, August 19, 2025 – The Asian Eastern Zonal Volleyball Championship got underway in Zhangjiagang with Korea and Hong Kong, China making strong opening statements, both securing straight-set victories over Mongolia and Macao, China respectively.
A total of six teams are competing in this year’s edition. Pool A comprises Hong Kong, China, Macao, China, and hosts China, while Pool B features Korea, Mongolia, and Chinese Taipei.
In Tuesday’s first encounter, Korea battled Mongolia in a hard-fought contest. The opening set was evenly matched, with Korea’s Heo Subong and Mongolia’s Batsuur Battur leading the scoring with 6 and 7 points respectively. Korea narrowly prevailed 25-23.
The intensity continued in the second set, highlighted by a brilliant performance from Im Donghyeok, who notched 9 points. Korea’s Gim Myeonggwan sealed the set 26-24 with a decisive second-hit attack.
Maintaining their momentum, Korea closed out the third set 25-20, completing a 3-0 sweep.
Despite the defeat, Mongolia’s Batsuur Battur delivered an outstanding individual performance, scoring a match-high 22 points. He also impressed in defense, registering key blocks and creating counterattack opportunities that kept his team competitive throughout. His efforts, however, were not enough to shift the outcome.
The second match saw Hong Kong, China overpower Macao, China in straight sets. Chi Kin Kuan showed composure under pressure, scoring crucial points from broken plays, while Ka Nam Wan sealed the victory with the decisive final point as Hong Kong wrapped up the win 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-20).
Action continues on Wednesday with Korea facing Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong, China taking on hosts China.
