STAGE SET, MATCH SCHEDULE UNVEILED FOR 1ST AVC WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE IN PHILIPPINES

The tournament will kick off on April 20 with the opening match between Chinese Taipei’s Taipower and Hip Hing of Hong Kong, China

Bangkok, Thailand, March 20, 2025 – With only one month until the first serve of the opening match of the highly-anticipated AVC Women’s Champions League in Philippines, formidable Creamline Cool Smashers, the most successful team in the PVL with 10 titles to their name, are set to clash with Jordan’s Al Naser Club in their first Pool A match at the 10,000-seater PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on April 20.

AVC, in partnership with Volleyball World, has recently released the match schedule for the AVC Women’s Champions League, a bold rebrand of the annual Asian Club Championship, due to take place in Philippines from April 20 to 27, 2025, with top 12 teams across the continents including three teams from hosts Philippines testing their mettle to vie for top honour, the shared USD50,000 prize money and two berths to represent Asia in the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship later this year.

Following the results of drawing of lots conducted during the Press Conference and Drawing of Lots, with AVC President Mr Ramon Suzara presiding at The Grand Fourwings Convention Hotel Bangkok on March 12, Philippines A’s Creamline Cool Smashers are in Pool A with Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu VC and Al Naser Club of Jordan, while Pool B consists of Philippines B’s Petro Gazz Angles, Chinese Taipei’s Taipower and Hip Hing Women’s Volleyball Team from Hong Kong, China.

Pool C comprises China’s BAIC Motor Volleyball Club, VTV Binh Dien Long An from Vietnam and Iran Volleyball Club from Iran, with Nakhon Ratchasima QminC VC of Thailand, PLDT High Speed Hitters from Philippines and Australia’s Queensland Pirates in Pool D.

Teams will first compete in the pool round-robin preliminaries between April 20 and 22. Only top two teams from each pool will progress to the cross quarterfinals on April 24-25, with teams from Pool A taking on those from Pool D (A1 against D2, A2 against D1) and teams from Pool B facing Pool C squads (B1 against C2, B2 against C1). The four winning teams will secure their slots in the semifinals on April 26. The two winners will next fight it out on April 27 for the eventual title of the first edition of the historic AVC Women’s Champions League in Philippines.

According to the match schedule, Philippines A’s Creamline Cool Smashers, driven by standout performances from talented players including team captain Alyssa Valdez, will kick off their home campaign against Al Naser Club in Pool A at 16.00 local time (UTC08.00) on the opening day on April 20.

As Creamline became the first PVL team in the 2024 season to achieve a “grand slam” following their victories in all there conferences in a season, the passionate Filipino volleyball fans have pinned their high hopes on this home side to make their mark in the inaugural AVC Women’s Champions League. Al Naser Club, whose main players joined the Jordan’s national team in the second-place finish at the 2022 West Asia Women’s Championship on home soil in Amman, are also set to make their first continental appearance.

There is a vast range of things for home fans to cheer their hearts out for their teams on April 20 when another home side, PLDT High Speed Hitters, will face off against Queensland Pirates, the Australia’s Super League champions in 2012 and 2024, in Pool D at 19.00 (UTC11.00).

Earlier, Taipower of Chinese Taipei, constantly striving to improve and push themselves to new heights, and Hip Hing Women’s Volleyball Team from Hong Kong, China set up an opening clash of the AVC Women’s Champions League on April 20. The Pool B encounter will commence at 10.00 (UTC02.00), followed by the second match at 13.00 (UTC05.00) between Beijing-based BAIC Motor Volleyball Club, which captured their first China’s CVL title in 2018-19 season, and Iran Volleyball Club in Pool C.

On April 21, the second day of the eight-day volleyball spectacle, the Chinese team will challenge VTV Binh Dien Long An, champions at the Vietnam Hung Vuong Cup 2023-24 season and third place at the Vietnam Hoa Lu Cup 2024-25 season, at 10.00 (UTC02.00).

Former Thailand’s national team player and star spiker Onuma Sittirak and hard-attacking Sasipapron Janthawisut will lead Nakhon Ratchasima QminC VC, the six-time Thailand League winners and bronze medallists at the last year’s Asian Women’s Club Championship on home soil, in their first Pool D match against Aussies Queensland Pirates at 13.00 (UTC05.00).

In the third match at 16.00 (UTC08.00), Taipower of Chinese Taipei are scheduled to set up a tough clash with Philippines B’s Petro Gazz Angels, which landed the 2024 PNVF Champions League to their name aside from clinching second place at the Premier Volleyball League in 2019 and 2022, while the day’s highlight will be another intense match in Pool A between Philippines A’s Creamline Cool Smashers and Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu VC, the nine-time Kazakhstan Cup champions and four-time Super Cup winners, at 19.00 (UTC11.00).

With just one month to go ahead of the official kickoff on April 20, the stage is set for the 1st AVC Women’s Champions League to provide breathtaking action of the Asia’s top teams in awesome cheering atmosphere. The historic event promises to be one of the landmark chapters of the continent’s premier women’s volleyball event.
