Pasig City, Philippines, April 20, 2025 –Taipower of Chinese Taipei powered through a straight-sets match, 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-14) over Hip Hing Women’s Volleyball Club of Hong Kong, China in Pool B of the 1st AVC Women’s Volleyball Champions League.
In Sunday’s opening match at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City, the Chinese Taipei side amassed a total of 12 service winners, as they identified weak spots on the opponents’ formation. Their service, when not converted to aces, still worked powerfully in disrupting the passing lanes. This clearly established the tempo and narrative of the match.
Setter Hung Chia-Yao, who performed well to run Taipower’s offense, shared her comments and reaction after the victory. “It’s a great pleasure for our team to join this championship, and we know that we will learn a lot from the other teams,” she said.
Outside hitter Peng Yu-Rou, who came off the bench, led all scorers on the board, charting a total of 16 points in the victory. Joining her with double-digits contribution is Tsai Yu-Chun, who scored another 11 points for Taipower.
Hip Hing improved in the second set, showing they could complete their plays or, at times, outsmart the opponents. However, they could not fully establish nor sustain their composure in the match, showing great disparity in skill and tactics against the other team.
Taipower continued to serve well. They set up their rather straightforward offense, banking on their outside hitters good success rate. With the gap wide open, Coach Chang Li-Yun enjoyed the luxury of resting her main hitters. She brought in 18-year-old Lin Xi, who converted with good runs from the wing, to help complete the victory in straight sets.
Taipower will face the Philippines’ Petro Gazz Angels on Monday at 16:00, while Hip Hing will play the next day, Tuesday at 19:00 against the same Philippines’ team. All times local.
