Siem Reap, Cambodia, March 21, 2019 – Thailand’s Surin Jongklang and Banlue Nakprakhong and Belarus’ Aliaksandr Dziadkou and Pavel Piatrushka led four other winning pairs in the qualification tournament on Thursday to advance to the main draw of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 2-star event in Siem Reap.
The Thai duo was the lone Asian pair that survived the first day by clearing their second round hurdle with a 2-1 (21-19, 19-21, 15-12) win over Sweden’s Martin Appelgren and Alexander Annerstedt after earning a bye in the first round of qualification.Surin played with Sedtawat Padsawud at the Sydney 3-star earlier this month, while Banlue last saw action at the Bandar Anazali 1-star tournament in Iran with Kitti Duangjinda.
Dziadkou and Piatrushka defeated USA pair Ed Ratledge and Adam Roberts 2-0 (21-10, 21-11) and Russian duo Petr Bakhnar and Aleksandr Kramarenko 2-0 (21-17, 21-17).
Meanwhile, Kristoffer Abell and Martin Trans Hansen of Denmark routed Canadian pair Jake MacNeil and William Hoey 2-0 (21-16, 21-17) and New Zealand tandem Thomas Hartles and Alani Nicklin 2-0 (21-14, 21-11) to progress to the next round.
Austria’s Florian Schnetzer and Petr Eglseer, Germany’s Robin Sowa and Lukas Pfretzschner and Latvia’s Mihails Samoilovs and Matiss Gabdullins – won both their matches in qualification to secure the main draw spots.
