Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, June 7, 2022 – Hosts Thailand trounced aspiring Australia 25-18, 25-16, 25-9, handing the Aussies the second loss at the 14th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the Nakhon Pathom Sports Center Gymnasium on Tuesday.
Thailand, fresh from winning their opening clash against Uzbekistan, stayed on course and made their mark in their encounter against Australia.
Backed by over 300 spectators at the venue, Thailand started strongly to take the first set 25-18 without much trouble. Showcasing their exceptional attacks and solid blocks, Thailand made a firm attack to win the next two sets 25-16, 25-9, leaving home fans in delight with their team’s success.
Kanchana Sisaikaeo chipped in with 11 points for Thailand, while Caitlin Whincup scored a match-high 12 points including 10 kills for the losing Australia.
Thailand will next play Iran on Wednesday in their third preliminary Pool A clash, while Australia will go up against Korea.
David Beard, head coach of Australia, said after the match, “We lost but at least we played much better than yesterday. Their coherence and teamwork was satisfactory. My players are just playing here and have never played before and they need time to gain more experience.”
