Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, June 8, 2022 – Hard-attacking Warisara Seetaloed scored a team-high 21 points, as undefeated Thailand put it past embattled Iran 3-1 (25-17, 18-25, 25-20, 25-17) in their third Pool A match at the 14th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship at Nakhon Pathom Sports Center Gymnasium on Wednesday.
Warisara Seetaloed scored from 19 attacks and 2 solid blocks for Thailand, which lost their very first set in this thrilling match of the on-going top-flight competition, while Shaghayegh Hassan Khani led Iran with 21 points.
Thailand made a strong start to win the comfortable first set 25-17. With coach Mitra Shabanian giving her players a tip to play the tough rivals, Iran found their touch and put up a good fight to claim a competitive second set 25-18. However, Thailand played better tactically and technically in crucial moments of the next two sets to win 25-20, 25-17.
“I am so happy for this victory. Iran pressured us in the second set by their good serves. We could not adjust our plan and we lost the set. We came back in the third set and reunited for an improved performance. As far as I’m concerned, Iran was very well-prepared and they played very well. Their serves, attacks, and receptions were good,” Aphirath Ngammeerith, head coach of Thailand, said after the match.
“I myself selected the players through talent identification program of the national federation. One of my players got injured and some of our players were not at their maximum level today. I am satisfied with their performance overall as they fought well for every ball today,” Mitra Shabanian, head coach of Iran, said.
