Bolt6 will deliver cutting-edge automatic ball-tracking technology alongside Hawk-Eye’s video officiating system for thrilling and fair match-ups at the Olympic volleyball competition.
In an exciting development for volleyball players and fans worldwide, the FIVB has secured a groundbreaking partnership for the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Bolt6 has been confirmed as the official automated ball tracking provider, working in conjunction with Hawk-Eye, the official video-officiating system provider for volleyball in Paris. This collaboration represents a significant milestone, emphasising the FIVB’s commitment to delivering the highest standards of fairness and transparency for its athletes.
Hawk-Eye, first confirmed for the Olympic Games in the 2021/2022 season as the sole Platinum homologated video challenge provider for the FIVB, has long been recognised for its reliability and advanced technology across various sports, including volleyball. However, for the Paris 2024 volleyball competition, Hawk-Eye’s system will be complemented by Bolt6’s automatic ball in/out tracking feature.
Bolt6’s new technology significantly accelerates the pace of matches with teams able to save their challenge requests for more complex reviews and decisions. Prior to Bolt6’s introduction, the in/out challenge represented approximately 40 percent of challenge requests and 25 percent of the processing time during matches.
A combination of the FIVB’s dedication to integrity, fair play and innovation and strong advocation from the FIVB Coaching Commission and VNL Council members, has driven this decision. By integrating Bolt6’s ball in/out tracking technology with Hawk-Eye’s video officiating technology, the FIVB is setting a new benchmark for fairness and excitement at the Olympic Games, ensuring that every match is conducted with the utmost accuracy. The FIVB is proud to invest in this additional innovation as part of its commitment to ensuring the best-ever Olympic volleyball competition in Paris!
The last-minute flexibility demonstrated by the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, Hawk-Eye and Bolt6 was also key to making this partnership possible. Their willingness to integrate this advanced technology will no doubt contribute to a world-class volleyball competition at the Olympic Games this summer.
The countdown is well and truly on, and the combined capabilities of Hawk-Eye and Bolt6 promise to set new standards and ensure a hugely successful competition!
