THIRTY-FOUR CANDIDATES ATTENDING FIVB LEVEL-3 COACHES COURSE IN THAILAND

Bangkok, Thailand, November 18, 2024 – The FIVB Level-3 Coaches Course is now underway at  FIVB Development Center in Thailand, offering an exceptional learning opportunity for 34 enthusiastic candidates to help them thoroughly understand hi-level coaching techniques, development programs and skills essential for their career development.

Organized by Thailand Volleyball Association in conjunction with FIVB and AVC, the course is being held between November 18 and 25 under close supervision of FIVB Course Director Mr John Kessel from USA and FIVB Course Instructor Ms Feng Kun, globally known as former China women’s national volleyball team setter and captain who steered China to the 2004 Summer Olympics gold medal in Athens.

The candidates from 17 countries consisting of Iceland, Scotland, Norway, Australia, Greece, Nepal, Maldives, India, USA, Thailand, China, Gambia, Philippines, Japan, Macao China, Singapore and Hong Kong China will engage in learning the coaching techniques, theoretically and practically.

Designed to be comprehensive and cover a wide range of topics, the course highlights key coaching matters including model of national and professional teams, distribution of duties to coach’s staff, coaching aspects: scouting, new technologies, evaluation and performance, advanced planning of team preparations, coach’s role during a match and coach’s ethics and behavior as well as psychological and mental aspects of the players’ preparation and performance and medical aspects towards players’ injuries including recovery, rehabilitation and physiotherapy.

The course kicked off on Monday, with TVA President Mr Somporn Chaibangyang and Acing Director Sports Office of Ramkhamhaeng University Assistant Professor Kritchaya Poompim jointly presiding over the opening ceremony at the FIVB Development Center in Thailand.

Mr John Kessel, Ms Feng Kun and AVC Referee Coordinator Mr Songsak Chareonpong were guests of honour at the ceremony, while Mr Issara Riddhisinha, General Manager of FIVB Development Center in Thailand, and AVC Development Coordinator Ms Mingkwan Pusiddusid were also present in the Monday’s inauguration.

In his welcome speech, TVA President Mr Somporn said: “On behalf of the TVA, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to guests of honour and all participants for your kind cooperation in attending the opening ceremony of the FIVB Coaches Course Level 3. It’s my great pleasure to welcome FIVB Course Director Mr John Kessel, FIVB Course Instructor Ms Feng Kun and all 34 candidates participating in this course.

“Thanks to an excellent cooperation and great contribution of Ramkhamhaeng University, we have successfully conducted many courses and clinics of FIVB and AVC. More importantly, over 30 training camps have been organised here each year for teams abroad. 

“As the course will be conducted by Mr John Kessel, who was presented with the “Mintonette Medallion of Merit” Award at the recent International Volleyball Hall of Fame ceremony in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and Ms Feng Kun, who had won gold medals with China national team in several world volleyball competitions and the Athens Olympics in particular, this will be the best opportunity for all candidates to learn from both highly-competent instructors. I sincerely wish all participants in this course the very best success and a pleasant stay in Thailand,” the TVA President was quoted as saying.

In her speech, Asst Prof Kritchaya Poompim said that she was pleased and honored to welcome all participants to the course, adding that on behalf of Ramkhamhaeng University, she felt very proud to be part of this international activity. 

“Regarding full support for the staging of this course, essential facilities and infrastructure have already been arranged for your convenient use including gymnasium, lecture room and dinning room which all meet international standard. FIVB Course Director Mr John Kessel welcomed all candidates to the course, wishing them to share their perspectives and experience in class to help improve competency in order that they can enhance their future coaching career.

After that, TVA President Mr Somporn presented souvenirs to all guests of honour – Asst Prof  Kritchaya Poompim, Mr John Kessel, Ms Feng Kun and Mr Songsak Chareonpong.
