Jiangmen, China, December 23, 2021 – Reigning champions Tianjin Bohai Bank remained on course after a 3-0 rout of Liaoning in thrilling three-setter in the Chinese Women’s Volleyball Super League on Thursday.
In the first game, the scores of both sides rose alternately at the beginning, but in the middle of the game, Tianjin relied on defensive counterattacks and serve points to spread the difference and maintain the lead to win the set 25-19. In the subsequent games, left-hander Li Yingying and Melissa Vargas showed strong offensive firepower, leading Tianjin all the way, winning the remaining two sets 25-19 and 25-16.
In the other match, Jiangsu also pulled off another straight-set win against Guangdong. Guangdong took a two-point lead in the first set, but then Jiangsu came back, relying on blocking and powerful attacks to tie the score at 10-all.
Gong Xiangyu’s aggression helped the team widen the difference and Wu Mengjie assisted with her spectacular spikes for the team’s 25-22 win in the first set. In the next two sets, Wu Mengjie remained Jiangsu’s major force to be reckoned with as she unleashed a barrage of attacks, while Guangdong failed to make their mark to go down 13-25, 19-25.
Meanwhile, Shanghai got their match against Shandong off to a brilliant start with a comfortable 25-14 win in the first set. Shandong upped their tempo and counter-attacked well in the second set, but still lost a thriller 26-28.
Shandong took an upper hand in the third set, but Wang Yindi and Zhong Hui came from the bench for the Shanghai’s help, firing on splendidly for four points in a row to help the team overtake the rivals. Shanghai went on their fine form to win the set 25-22 and match.
