The past weekend offered the first three double headers of the 16th leg in the men’s Daido Life SV.League in Japan. This week will offer the other two, highlighted by some midweek action between Tokyo Great Bears and Toray Arrows Shizuoka on Wednesday and Thursday, February 19 and 20. Voreas Hokkaido and Nagano Tridents will then complete the leg on Saturday and Sunday, featured in the Games of the Week.

Tokyo Great Bears will host Toray Arrows Shizuoka at the Yoyogi National Stadium 2nd Gymnasium on Wednesday and Thursday at 19:05 local time (10:05 UTC). In each of its four most recent double headers, the team from the capital won one and lost one match. They are running fourth in the current standings on an 18-12 win-loss ratio and 55 points. Regardless of the results in the upcoming two games, Tokyo will stay in that position ahead of the next leg, unlike their opponents from Shizuoka, for whom winning both matches would mean moving up one spot, at least until Saturday, from the ninth place they are currently occupying on 6-22 and 20, after suffering a negative streak of six consecutive defeats. When Great Bears visited Toray Arrows earlier this season, in October, they achieved two four-set victories.

The two teams that are just below and above Toray Arrows at the bottom of the table will close the 16th leg during the weekend. Voreas Hokkaido will entertain Nagano Tridents at the Recruit Staffing Rick&Sue Asahikawa Gymnasium on Saturday and Sunday at 13:35 (04:35). The hosts trail bottom, in 10th place on 3-25 and 14, while their visitors stand eighth on 7-21 and 17. The historic head-to-head record between the two clubs in the league stands at 5-3 Nagano’s way, after they broke the balance in November, when they beat Voreas, also on the road, by 3-1 in the first match and by 3-2 in the second.
