Hosts Tokyo Great Bears are running fourth in the current standings on a 19-13 win-loss ratio and 59 points. Osaka Bluteon, on the other hand, are on top of the table on 27-3 and 80, already qualified for the playoffs. The iconic Olympic venue Ariake Coliseum will be the arena of the two clashes, on Saturday at 15:05 local time (06:05 UTC) and on Sunday at 14:05 (05:05), and the home club is aiming to break the SV.League attendance record.

Osaka are riding the momentum of a 14-game winning streak in the SV.League. Their most recent setback, whoever, was at the hands of Tokyo, when they last met on December 8. Back then, at the Panasonic Arena in Osaka, the squad from the capital surprised the mighty opponent with a shutout, after losing in four sets the day before. In fact, that upset put an end to Osaka’s impressive run of 30 league victories in a row in the head-to-head series against Tokyo that started back in 2016.

Wolfdogs Nagoya, who stand second on 25-7 and 75 and also have a secured spot in the playoffs, will welcome Hiroshima Thunders to the Park Arena Komaki on Saturday at 15:35 (06:35) and on Sunday at 14:35 (05:35). Hiroshima are currently in seventh place on 12-20 and 37, just below the cut-off line for the playoffs. With the momentum of a seven-game winning streak, Nagoya are the favourites in this double header. However, when the two teams last met in November, Wolfdogs were pushed to fight back from two sets down before winning the second match. The day before, they beat the home team in four sets.

Defending champions Suntory Sunbirds Osaka will be on the road this weekend, visiting Nagano Tridents at the ANC Arena at 14:05 (05:05) on Saturday and at 13:05 (04:05) on Sunday. Suntory Sunbirds are running third in the table on 22-8 and 66, and it is possible that they will also have a guaranteed spot in the playoffs at the end of this leg, depending on the results. Nagano stand third from the bottom, in eighth place on 8-22 and 20. Suntory Sunbirds won the previous seven encounters with Nagano in the league, but they have not met this season yet.

In another interesting match-up this weekend, JTEKT Stings Aichi will entertain Nippon Steel Sakai Blazers. Although they are quite far from each other in terms of their records, they are neighbours in the current table, both above the cut-off line for the playoffs. Aichi are fifth on 18-14 and 48, and Sakai are sixth on 12-18 and 38. On both competition days, the games at the Okazaki Central Park Martial Arts Arena will start at 14:05 (05:05). When JTEKT Stings visited Blazers in October, they won the first match in straight sets, but in the second, they were pushed to resolve a five-set battle in the tie-breaker.

Also at 14:05 (05:05) on both days of the weekend, Toray Arrows Shizuoka will host Voreas Hokkaido at the Konohana Arena for the clash at the bottom of the table. The home team is next to last, in ninth place on 7-23 and 22, while the visitors trail bottom on 4-26 and 17. It will be the third double header between the two teams this season. Voreas managed to win one of the previous four matches, and in the most recent encounter they put up a five-set fight before conceding defeat.
