The Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2025 on February 27 at Social Centre Haruge in Malé City. The meeting started at 22:30 and was attended by 11 out of 13 permanent members. Out of the 16 Executive Committee Members, 13 were present, while Vice President – Volleyball, Mr Ali Latheef, was away from Malé City.
The meeting was chaired by VAM President Mr Mohamed Latheef, who also serves as the AVC Executive Vice President, AVC Zonal Executive Vice President representing Central, and the President of the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA). This was the final meeting of the current Executive Committee, as the newly elected committee will assume office from April 1, 2025 for a four-year term. Most of the current members including President Latheef have been re-elected.
During the AGM, the VAM Annual Activity Report 2024 and the Annual Financial Report 2024 were approved. In addition, the proposed budget for 2025, the budget plan for 2025, and the activity calendar for the year were also passed.
In his opening remarks, President Latheef highlighted the remarkable achievements of 2024 including the gold medal secured by the Maldives National Team in the CAVA Men’s Beach Volleyball Championship in Bhutan, the silver medal won by the national team in the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Challenge Cup in the Maldives, and the bronze medal achieved by Club WAMCO in the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Club Championship, also held in the Maldives. He emphasized that these accomplishments were the result of collective effort and expressed his gratitude to the players, officials, sponsors, and the entire volleyball community.
Looking ahead to 2025, VAM has set ambitious targets, including the launch of a youth development program, with a reputed coach expected to join in April to support this initiative. Another coach is set to arrive in May to assist in compiling a comprehensive 10-year master plan for the development of volleyball in the Maldives.
The year 2025 will also feature an extensive calendar of activities, with 17 national volleyball tournaments and four national beach volleyball tournaments planned. Furthermore, the Maldives national teams will participate in 18 international events, and the country will host four international tournaments.
The AGM was attended by representatives from the Maldives Commissioner of Sports, the Maldives Olympic Committee, and the Maldives Sports Council, with CAVA joining as an observer. With a clear vision for the future and a strong leadership team in place, VAM is committed to furthering the growth of volleyball in the Maldives and building on the successes of previous years.
