Tehran, Iran, February 13, 2021 – Varamin Shahrdari and Gonbad Shahrdari emerged as the last two teams to advance to the playoffs round of the Iran Men’s Volleyball Super League, iranvolleyball.com reported.
Varamin Shahrdari, which captured the 2019 Asian Men’s Club Championship in Chinese Taipei following their stunning 3-2 win over Japan’s Panasonic Panthers in the final showdown, booked their playoffs berth despite going down 2-3 (17-25, 25-16, 18-25, 28-26, 7-15) in an intense encounter against Tehran Saipa on Saturday.
Gonbad Shahrdari made their mark as they pulled off a dramatic 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20) win against Qazvin Shahrdari.
Eight teams will be eligible for the playoffs round. As six teams have already made the cut, Varamin Shahrdari and Gonbad Shahrdari became the last two teams to complete the playoffs quota.
Meanwhile, the thrilling duel between the top two teams in the standings, Sepahan Foulad and Sirjan Foulad, saw the former going down 1-3 (16-25, 25-18, 23-25, 17-25) to the latter. Still, the top-three ranking remained unchanged, with Sepahan Foulad on top of the standing. Sirjan Foulad and Urmia Shahrdari are trailing in second and third places respectively.
A total of six matches were held in Week 28 at Volleyball Federation Hall and Volleyball House of Tehran. Urmia Shahrdari, Foulad Sirjan, Yazd Shahdab, Tehran Saipa, Tehran Paykan and Gonbad Shahrdari sealed victories, while Kordestan Rahyab Melal and Urmia Azarbatri rested in Week 28.
The preliminary matches in Week 29 will take place on Monday, February 15 at both venues.
