Gresik, East Java, Indonesia, June 24, 2023 – Vietnam are the second team to enter the finale of the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup for Women after winning in straight sets, 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-21) over India on Saturday evening at the Tri Dharma Petrokimia Gresik Gymnasium.
Tran Thi Bich Thuy led the scorers in the winning team with 13 points, while Kambrath Poyilil Anushree scored the same number of markers in defeat.
Vietnam hitters Pan Thi Nguyet Anh and Doan Thi Xuan provided much support in attack, and helped augment their block defense. The team scored off a total of 10 blocks which only reaffirmed their advantage over the opponents.
Captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy commented, “I am feeling really good. And we are honored that we will have a chance to qualify for the FIVB Challenger Cup. This is an important competition for us so we will do our best.”
Saturday’s win will pit the Vietnam squad against Indonesia, which will be enjoying the home crowd advantage.
“I think it will not be a problem if we just keep our focus. I usually tell my teammates to just play their best and enjoy every moment.
“I can also think of it that they are also cheering for us. And cheering for the sport and all teams,” Tran Thi Thanh Thuy continued.
The Vietnam-Indonesia final showdown is set on Sunday, 19:00. India will face Chinese Taipei in the battle for third place in an earlier match at 16:30. All times local.
