Manila, Philippines, May 29, 2024 – Vietnam retained their crown at the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women after taking straight sets, 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) against Kazakhstan in Wednesday evening’s main event at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
In a thrilling battle between the defending champions and debuting team, Vietnam staged a repeat of their Preliminary Round encounter, which ended with a 3-1 scoreline.
Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen amassed an astounding 26 points with her nearly unstoppable attacks from the flanks as well as the backline.
Vietnam loaded the offense upon Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen who launched powerful attacks that left no time nor space for the opponents to adjust to. They also played more quickly and had better composure in transition.
Kazakhstan relied upon their captain Sana Anarkulova, who delivered a great all-around game. She powered the Kazakh offense and delivered in crucial breaks. However, they needed to do more in order to contain their opponents’ main scorer. They needed to firm up their net defense and work doubly hard at the backcourt.
The Kazakhs succeeded in several sequences, where they could play along the fast pace of their opponents. They established a good lead in the third set but lost grip of the match with a string of costly errors.
Wednesday evening’s victory will send Vietnam back to Manila, Philippines as they have confirmed their slot to compete in the FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup which will take place from July 4-7, 2024.
