VITAL HEYNEN DELIVERS COACHES REFRESHER COURSE IN IRAN

Tehran, Iran, April 9, 2022 – The advanced refresher course for the coaches, conducted by highly-experienced coach Vital Heynen from Belgium, came to a fruitful close at Olympic Hotel in Iran on April 6, with a large number of 250 coaches attending.

Heynen, who was twice named Belgian Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2011, became a head coach of Germany national team in February 2012 and at the 2014 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship, his team beat France in the third-place playoff for bronze medal. In 2017, he took over Belgian national team and on February 7, 2018, was chosen as the new head coach of Poland men’s national volleyball team. He led Poland to a scintillating win against Brazil in the final showdown in the 2018 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship in Italy, helping the Poles capture back-to-back world titles. Heynen is currently at the helm of the Germany women’s national volleyball team.

Heynen, 53, came to Iran to pass on his knowledge and experience both in theoretical and practical sessions to the Iranian coaches. Three coaches from Iraq also joined the development course.

Trends in modern volleyball and role of the coaches, Planning and Drill design (methodology of training), mental and psychological aspects of coaching, the effective analysis of the opponents were part of the key topics he had conducted in the three-day course.

As the theoretical part was held at Olympic Hotel, the practical session took place at the Federation Hall.

Dr Javad Mehregan, Head of Development Department of Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation (IRIVF), expressed his satisfaction over the course, “Coaches should get used to spending their time in refresher courses of such kind to cultivate levels of their thinking.”

“What Heynen had shared with us is not written in any books and his great experience while leading his team to winning the World Championship is of great value,” he added.

IRIVF President Dr Mohammad Reza Davarzani is convinced that “the Federation is deciding to repeat such courses more to be able to continue significant successes with our coaches.”  

At the end of the course, Dr Vahid Moradi, Senior Advisor to the IRIVF President, presented Mr  Vital Heynen with a souvenir of Iran and said, “We have to develop ourselves in any area including the coaches’ proficiency.”
