Pasig City, Philippines, April 25, 2025 – Vietnam club VTV Binh Dien Long An endured a 3-1 match (25-20, 17-25, 25-22,28-26) against Chinese Taipei’s Taipower in the quarterfinals of the 1st AVC Women’s Volleyball Champions League.
Natalia Lijewska, who helped start the match, shared her comments about Friday afternoon’s victory at the PhilSports Arena. “I am extremely happy for the girls. I think the fourth set was a really challenging one. We were able to stop our opponents somehow. The relationship between our reception and the spikers helped us to score and achieve in the last set, the winning set, I’d call it,” she said.
The Vietnam club ran their plays with captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy in charge of the flanks, while Lu Thi Phuong activated the middle attack.
Taipower showed they could play along the pace of their opponents with Hsu Wan-Yun and captain Huang Ching Hsuan taking care of business. However, they were unable to handle their opponents’ sharp strikes and lost grip of the first set.
The Chinese Taipei side looked quicker in their reflexes in the second set. Their block formation looked more solid, marking and seeing off the opponents’ attacks. They performed better from the service area, scoring off two aces. The younger squad played an error-free set and gained even more from their opponents’ errors.
The Vietnam side’s setter Vo Thi Kim Thoa rotated her plays well, opening opportunities for nearly everyone on the floor. Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, who looked prolific in attack, boosted their firepower.
Taipower worked hard to keep up with their opponents, trying to stamp a solid claim in the match. Their passing lanes looked fluid enough to activate the right hitters at the right time. However, they were unable to close out, crumbling in the end with costly miscalculations.
By the fourth set, VTV Binh Dien Long An looked to capitalize on their momentum. They looked ever hungrier to continue on in the competition. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and Vi Thi Nhu Quynch worked hard in passing and scoring in clutch plays, to help race to match point.
Taipower gripped onto their chances, with Hsu Wan-Yun and Tasi Yu-Chun keeping steadfast to extend the match. In the end, it was a net fault that sent their opponents to the semifinal phase.
“I hope we play with more aggressiveness from our side, and personally, more focus and concentration on my part. Whoever we compete against in the semifinal, I hope it will be a good game for us. We will all play the best volleyball possible,” Lijewska said.
