Pasig City, Philippines, April 24, 2025 – Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu VC knocked home team PLDT High Speed Hitters out of contention in 1st AVC Women’s Volleyball Champions League after winning 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-20) in the Thursday’s quarterfinal match-up at the PhilSports Arena.
Captain Karyna Denysova, who helped boost the victory with 15 points, commented on their success so far in the competition. “It’s about just playing every ball, every moment, and play until the end while believing our own strength. I think that’s the secret,” she said.
Zhetysu VC setter Daria Sharhorodska looked to orchestrate her offense seamlessly, confident with her hitters Tatyana Nikitina andDenysova, while greatly benefiting from the passing skills of Yuliia Dymar. They have also done their homework, as they closely marked their opponents’ prime hitter and deflected incoming attempts.
PLDT High Speed Hitters’ Savanah Davison endeavored to find a workaround against the tall opponents, connecting more effectively in the second set. Dell Palomata also showed great effort in activating the middle attack. Moreover, the Philippine club played much better in the back court, restarting and making good decisions after taking heavy hits.
Zhetysu rushed back into the game, with Nikitina scoring with clutch points in the closing plays of the second set.
A tight race ensued in the third set, with neither team taking a truly comfortable lead. Zhetysu VC played to their usual strengths in power drives and block formation, but also served strategically, clogging the passing lanes of the opponents. They took a firm grip of the closing plays, unleashing their attacks with only victory in mind.
Zhetysu VC now await their semifinal matchup for the showdown scheduled on Saturday in Pasig City.
“We just to continue in this condition, do what we need to do in every game, and we will see how it will unfold,” Denysova said.
