NATIONAL FEDERATIONS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN 2021 AVC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Bangkok, Thailand, November 16, 2020 – AVC on Monday sent its affiliated National Federations invitations including Entry Forms, Timeline for 2021 AVC Competitions and AVC Uniform Jerseys in order that they can plan ahead and make better decisions in participating in the 2021 AVC Volleyball Championships.

AVC has tentatively planned to stage four Championships next year comprising the Asian Men’s and Women’s Club Championships and Asian Senior Men’s and Women’s Championships.

The continent’s governing body has already informed AVC Affiliated National Federations about cancellation of 2020 AVC Senior Championships and postponement of AVC Underage Championships to the following year due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

AVC has also kept them well informed about the further decision on the AVC Underage Championships, citing that if the Underage Championships cannot be held within February 2021, then FIVB will use the Team Ranking from the previous Asian Underage Championships to select the qualified teams from Asia to compete in the 2021 FIVB Underage World Championships.

In terms of the 2021 AVC Championships, AVC has initially planned to organise four tournaments, with the number of entry limited to a maximum of 16 teams in all AVC events. A total of 16 teams in any AVC Championship will be selected by the eligibility rules: 1 team for the organisers, 10 teams based on the team rankings from the previous edition of the championship, 5 teams from each of 5 zones (a qualification tournament can be held earlier if needed).

Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand will host two consecutive tournaments – the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship from April 11 to 18 at MCC Hall, The Mall Korat Shopping Mall and Terminal 21 Hall inside Terminal 21 Department Store and the 2021 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship between April 25 and May 2 at the similar venues. Both championships will serve as the qualification tournaments for the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Men’s and Women’s Clubs World Championships.

The other two events see Jiangmen, China host the 21st Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship from August 29 to September 5 at Jiangmen Sports Centre Gymnasium and the 21st Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship in Chiba, Japan during September 12 and 19.

The National Federations interested to send their teams in the above-mentioned four AVC Championships have to submit their entry forms to both AVC Headquarters and the organisers before, but not later than January 15, 2021. Late National Entry is possible up to January 31, 2021, but with payment for fines of US$500.
