Manama, Bahrain, May 16, 2023 – Devastating Bayankhongor Crownd Geo VC of Mongolia came out in full force to whip Thailand’s Diamond Food Fine Chef-Air Force in one-sided affair 25-19, 25-18, 25-15 in their third Pool C match on Day 3 of the 2023 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship at Issa Bin Rashed Hall 1 here on Tuesday.
Bayankhongor took command in the first set, thanks to their combination attacks and solid blocks. Thailand tried to pull their game together, attempting to catch up with the Mongolians’ exceptional tactics. However, the formidable Mongolians intensified their defence, allowing the rivals attacking difficulty. Bayankhongor clinched the comfortable set 25-19.
The rhythm was with the Thais when they raced to a commanding 6-3 lead in the second set. Inspired by the victory, the determined Thais regained their composure and started to produce the goods. However, the Mongolian outfits bounced back mightily, catching Diamond Food and broke away.
The Thai side held firm, but their intention did not pay its dividends as Bayankhongor took the commanding lead with a 7-point advantage at 24-17. The Mongolians allowed their rivals only one more point to wrap up the set 25-18 to widen the gap to 2-0.
The third set was the similar script when Bayankhongor remained in awesome form to take an initial 8-3 lead before the Thais upped their tempo to reduce the gap 10-12. Despite putting up a brave fight, the spirited Thais found the Mongolians unstoppable to go down 15-25.
Batsuuri Battur chipped in with 24 points for Bayankhongor Crownd Geo VC including 18 attacks, while Chaiwat Thungkham led Diamond Food Fine Chef-Air Force with 19 points.
With the win, Bayankhongor had similar performance as Diamond Food with one win against two losses, but the Mongolians had a combined 4 points against the Thais’ 3 to finish second in Pool C. Bayankhongor moved up to the quarterfinals and will next take on the top team of Pool A, while Diamond Food were relegated to classification round for 9th-16th places and will next be pitted against the fourth team of Pool A.
