Bangkok, Thailand, February 3, 2024 – The AVC Coaches Committee met in a hybrid format at Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel Bangkok on Saturday to discuss key issues including coaching support to National Federations and cooperation projects.
AVC CC Chairman Mr Park Ki Won from Korea, Secretary Mr Mohamed Ahmed Al Thawadi from Bahrain, Mr G.E. Sridharan from India, Ms Feng Kun from China, Dr Shihab Al Din Ahmed Said Al Riyami from Oman and Mr Bader Abdulrahman Alkous from Kuwait joined the meeting on site, with Mr Mohammed Afshardoust from Iran and Mr Yuichi Nakagaichi from Japan on Zoom.
AVC President Mrs Rita Subowo, accompanied by AVC Secretary General Mr Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, welcomed all the Members to this meeting and she came up with several important points.
“The Coaches Committee Meeting is very important because you are the key persons to make the National Federations teams successful. As we are now in the new era of volleyball, we can adapt and adjust to the new system, especially nowadays a new competition system in Volleyball Nations League, which we can learn in Asia to help our national teams reach the higher level and you are the important persons who will go directly to the athletes on court. So, I insist that we adapt new things, step by step,” she said.
The AVC President also emphasized on exchanging cooperation with International volleyball schools and coaching programs for learning coaching philosophy, modern volleyball and the methods of teaching grass roots of volleyball apart from extending and approving cooperation with CEV (Euro-Asia Coaches Cooperation Project as second edition) by attempting to conduct Coaches Courses and develop their coaching knowledge and upgrading Asian coaches.
Mrs Subowo also expressed her appreciation to FIVB’s support in establishing beach volleyball courts and events in Asia, encouraging the number of National Federations in AVC events for spreading volleyball in every zone and hoping that the AVC’s supports for any programs and proposal of coaches will help enhance the level and standards of Asian coaches and develop athletes’ performance.
Mr Kiattipong informed the meeting of important information on the FIVB rules and regulations in AVC events (for senior competitions), challenge system in the events and updates on the qualification in U16, U18 and U20 teams for respective FIVB Volleyball U17, U19 and U21 World Championships and the qualification of senior teams in the Asian Championships for the 2027 Volleyball World Championships and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
After that, Mr G.E. Sridharan reported on the great success of Euro-Asia Coaches Cooperation Project in 2023, citing that the first coaches course, which was conducted in Bangkok, was very successful and all participants (4 each from Asia and Europe) were so satisfied with the practical and theoretical sessions.
Mr Park reported on the progressive Euro-Asia Collaboration Project of 2024, saying that the AVC Board of Administration has already approved extension of the cooperation project with CEV (Euro-Asia Coaches Cooperation Project) and shared all the Members with the dates and methods for conducting the course in 2024. All Members also shared their points of view on the continuation of the project this year and agreed in principle that the course will be conducted in September and will be in two dimensions (grass root and high-level).
Mr Sridharan proposed that the number of Asian participants be increased to gain a lot of benefits and knowledge from this project, while selection of the place for course and the host country for this program should take positive advantages.
Dr Shihab Al Din proposed that the criteria of instructor selection be so perfect and excellent because the quality of instructors are so essential for coaches. Also, he suggested that the models be in three diminutions such as grass root of volleyball, volleyball physical preparation and high-level & advanced performance.
Also, the number of nominations via National Federations and zones should be fitting the AVC CC criteria and advantages for NFs hosting 15-20 coaches.
Mr Bader presented his proposal on enhancing performance of young players by hosting a seminar in Western Zone. The Members agreed to pass the proposal to AVC CC with all the details and requirements for that session.
AVC CC Chairman thanked all Members and extended his gratitude for working with them in last three years and appreciated the Members’ efforts during that time with high respects.
