Kathmandu, Nepal, December 6, 2024 – The inaugural CAVA Men’s Club Volleyball Championship will get underway on December 7 at National Sports Council Indoor Hall in this capital and most populous city of Nepal, with Mr Teju Lal Chaudhary, Nepalese Minister of Youth and Sports presiding over the championship inauguration on Saturday.
The debut championship, which will last eight days to see the eventual winning team being crowned the first-ever CAVA Men’s Club champions on December 14, has attracted five strong club teams to vie for top honour in this championship consisting of India’s Calicut Heroes, Club HDC from Maldives, Iran Men’s Volleyball Team and two club teams from hosts Nepal, Help Nepal Sports Club and Gandaki Province.
President of Nepal Volleyball Association Mr Jitendra Chand presided over the Friday’s General Technical Meeting, which was jointly conducted by Technical Delegate Mr Ahmed Nasheed from Maldives and Referee Delegate Mr Mohammed Shamari from Iran.
Teams will contest the single round-robin preliminaries, with top two teams setting up the final showdown to fight for the eventual title and the third and fourth places battling it out for the bronze medal.
In his welcome speech at the meeting, Mr Jitendra Chand said, “The CAVA has started the Club Championship in Central Asia and we are very happy to organize this very first Club Championship in Nepal.”
He also thanked CAVA President Mr Mohammed Latheef for entrusting the tournament to Nepal Volleyball Association, citing that NVA has done its best to manage all aspects necessary for organizing a successful tournament. NVA officials and members also presented in the Friday’s meeting.
On Saturday, the first day of the championship, Help Nepal Sports Club will kick off their campaign against India’s Calicut Heroes, while another Nepal’s club team, Gandaki Province, will take on Club HDC from Maldives.
