Stephen Bock to lead the group in supporting ASOIF International Federations on legal matters
The FIVB is proud to announce that Stephen Bock, FIVB’s Head of Legal and General Counsel, has been appointed as the Chair of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) Legal Consultative Group (ALCG). His official appointment by the ASOIF Council was approved on 22 January 2025.
ASOIF established Consultative Groups to provide expert advice to the ASOIF Council, the Executive Director, and representatives on key commissions and external organisations such as the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). These groups focus on key areas including Legal Affairs, Olympic and Multi-Sport Games, Medical and Scientific matters, Sports Development, Commercial, Technology, Sustainability and Gender Equality and Diversity.
The ALCG, created in May 2011, is specifically tasked with offering legal advice and information on sports legal matters of collective interest to the ASOIF member International Federations (IFs). It also oversees and contributes to joint IF projects aimed at strengthening the global sports landscape.
Mr Bock has been a proactive and valued member of the ALCG for several years, offering his expertise on numerous initiatives. His appointment as Chair reflects his exceptional contributions.
Speaking about his new role, Mr Bock said:
“I am deeply honoured to be appointed as Chair of the ASOIF Legal Consultative Group. I look forward to continuing to serve and strengthen both the volleyball community and global sport.”
FIVB President Fabio Azevedo congratulated Bock on his appointment, stating:
“Mr Bock’s appointment as Chair of the ASOIF Legal Consultative Group is a testament to his outstanding work and commitment to the Group. We are confident that his leadership will contribute significantly to the success of the ALCG’s important mission. The FIVB’s Strategic Vision 2032, “Together as One”, emphasises the importance of empowering all stakeholders to work together to strengthen and expand the global volleyball ecosystem, and support the Olympic Movement. Mr Bock’s appointment marks an exciting and significant step in realising this vision.”
