The FIVB remains committed to promoting clean sport within the Global Volleyball Movement and beyond
The FIVB proudly joins the global sporting community in celebrating Play True Day 2025, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to clean sport and the core values of integrity and fairness.
Launched by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) following its 2013 Education Conference in Latin America, Play True Day has grown from a small initiative into a global movement, reaching millions of athletes, officials and fans around the world. Now in its 11th edition, this year’s theme – “Play True: It Starts With You” – highlights the vital role every individual plays in protecting the spirit of sport.
As volleyball continues to grow around the world, the FIVB remains committed to promoting clean sport within the Global Volleyball Movement and beyond. The FIVB upholds a zero-tolerance approach to doping and is dedicated to educating and empowering all its stakeholders.
At the beginning of 2023, the FIVB delegated its global anti-doping testing programme to the International Testing Agency (ITA), to further professionalise and expand its efforts to protect clean sport.
“Our athletes deserve to compete on a level playing field,” said FIVB President Fabio Azevedo. “In line with our Strategic Vision 2032, the FIVB continues to take significant steps to enhance anti-doping education. One of the key pillars of this vision, “Athletes, History and Heritage”, places a strong focus on protecting athletes through robust, transparent and accessible anti-doping programmes.”
This commitment was further emphasised by FIVB Medical Commission President and Board of Administration Member Annie Peytavin in the Commission’s recent annual meeting. She stated:
“Athlete wellbeing goes beyond physical health – it encompasses mental welfare, safety and a sense of support throughout their sporting careers. Following a busy 2024 which saw a record breaking VNL and a memorable Olympic Games Paris 2024, our priority remains clear: to create the safest possible environment for our players while upholding the integrity of our sport. Clean and fair competition is at the heart of what we do at the FIVB, and I have no doubt that we can continue to enforce this in the years ahead.”
Working in close collaboration with the International Testing Agency (ITA) and WADA, the FIVB continues to broaden its education and testing activities. On 2 April 2025, the ITA conducted a Clean Sport Education Webinar on behalf of the FIVB to help National Federations better understand their anti-doping roles and responsibilities. The 60-minute session provided a comprehensive overview of educational resources and expert guidance available to support clean sport at all levels.
On this year’s Play True Day, the FIVB stands in solidarity with the global sporting community in its mission to protect clean sport. “Play True Day is not just a celebration, it is a call to action,” added President Azevedo. “By working together and staying true to our values, we can help to protect the integrity of global sport and inspire future generations to compete with honesty and pride.”
