BAIC MOTOR SWEEP SAIPA TEHRAN IN OPENING DAY OF AVC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Pasig City, Philippines, April 20, 2025 – China’s BAIC Motor Volleyball Club completed a sweep, 3-0 (28-26, 25-22, 25-19) against Iran’s Saipa Tehran in Pool C of the 1st AVC Women’s Volleyball Champions League.

Running on a mere eight-player roster, BAIC Motor dominated the match, connecting with 45 attacks and 10 blocks. They also unleashed 5 service winners in delivering Sunday afternoon’s victory.

The Chinese side ignited the first set with a powerful frontline, coupling their attacks with a solid block formation.

Outside hitter Jin Yie emerged as the top scorer in the match with 16 points, and expressed her appreciation for the crowd at the PhilSports Arena.

“It’s great to be here with the energy of the fans and the hospitality of the hosts. We are indeed missing a couple of players, but we are still determined to do our best in this championship,” she said.

With Shan Lanfeng (15 points) and Lu Yufei (15 points) likewise posting double-digits, BAIC Motor’s hitters delivered from the flanks and even scored from the backline when the opportunity presented such.

Mahsa Saberi and Neda Chamlanian tried to match the efforts of their opponents, as the main hitters of the Iran side. They showed good composure in transition plays, sustaining a number of lengthy rallies against their tough competition. They also benefitted from opponent errors, which helped extend the opening set.

Later, the Chinese side played much more cautiously, focusing on converting upon their attacks, while limiting unforced errors. Lu Yufei provided support from the wings, charting six points in the second set alone.

The Iran side continued to play along the pace of the match, but showed limited and less effective options when they set up their counterattacks.

BAIC Motor exerted all effort to mount a sizeable lead in the third set. They now took full control of the match, and left no space for a comeback. The Chinese side, though outnumbered, continued to look tireless in effort, and further benefitted from their opponents’ errors, all the way to taking the 3-0 win on Sunday.

BAIC Motor will play against VTV Bin Dinh Long An on Monday’s opener at 10:00 Philippine Time. Saipa Tehran will take the day off and resume play on Tuesday, also against the Vietnam club, in the 10:00 match at Pasig City’s PhilSports Arena.
