Pasig City, Philippines, April 22, 2025 – Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien Long An avenged their previous loss and gained a 3-1 victory (22-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-15) against Iran’s Saipa Tehran in Pool C of the 1st AVC Women’s Volleyball Champions League on Tuesday morning at the PhilSports Arena.
Captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy remarked on the team’s slow start as the match opened. “In the first set, the Iranians really served well and put pressure on us. They played really well on attack from position 4,” she said.
Saipa Tehran stamped their mark in the first set, with Mahsa Kadkhoda ans Mahsa Saberi on attack. They were running their offense well and they responded accordingly in transition plays.
The Vietnam club bounced back in the second set, mounting a huge advantage on the scoreboard. Vi Thi Nhu Quynh and captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy fired up the scoring engines.
Saipa Tehran tried to keep up with their opponent’s pace to stake their claim in the third set. They fought along each point, each sideout, connecting on some, while also losing a few.
The Vietnam club’s lead was still modest and manageable for their opponents to topple, until Natalia Lijewska came help pull away.
VTV Binh Dien Long An took their momentum to its maximum, as they continued to bring their best hitters to leap high and spike strong. They closed out with a solid performance to punch their way into the quarterfinals, posting 57 attacks, 10 blocks, and 4 service winners.
“For sure, we need to play better and prepare better. But for the tactics, we leave our complete trust to our coaching staff, and we will follow the game plan,” said Tran Thi Thanh Thuy.
Meanwhile, Saipa Tehran will bow out of the competition in the Champions League’s inaugural edition.
