Fergana, Uzbekistan, June 2, 2025 – Day 5 of the CAVA Men’s Volleyball Nations League 2025 unfolded with remarkable intensity and high-level performances as the competition entered Phase C. Fans in Fergana witnessed three captivating matches that showcased the strength, resilience, and evolving dynamics among Central and South Asia’s top volleyball nations.
The day began with a nail-biting five-set encounter between Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan. Turkmenistan came out strong, taking the first two sets 25-19 and 25-21 with controlled serving and solid block coverage.
However, Kyrgyzstan mounted a spectacular comeback, taking the third and fourth sets 25-15 and 25-21 with renewed energy and improved defense.
The fifth set was a tense affair, with both teams exchanging points before Kyrgyzstan sealed the match 15–13, completing a memorable 3–2 turnaround.
The match lasted exhausting 118 minutes and was attended by 400 spectators. The win gave Kyrgyzstan a vital boost in the Pool D standings and reflected their growing confidence and mental toughness under pressure.
The second match of the day featured a commanding performance by Iran, who swept Kazakhstan in straight sets 25-15, 30-28, 25-15. While the second set pushed Iran into a tighter contest, their overall composure and depth proved too much for the Kazakh side.
Iran’s attackers were relentless, with Alireza Abdolhamidi leading the charge, supported by consistent setting and strong back-row defense.
Kazakhstan showed flashes of quality, especially in the extended second set, but struggled with consistency and unforced errors. The Iranian squad, led by head coach Peyman Akbari, remained composed throughout the match, further strengthening their position at the top of Pool C. The match lasted 89 minutes and drew 500 spectators.
In the final match of the day, India powered past arch-rivals Pakistan with a confident 3–0 win (25-15, 25-19, 25-23). The Indian team set the tone early with a sharp serving strategy and aggressive net play, pushing Pakistan into a defensive posture from the start.
India’s Jerome Vinit Charles and Ashwal Rai played crucial roles in both attack and block, with Jerome scoring 15 points and converting at a 58% success rate. Pakistan fought back in the third set and showed improved resilience, narrowing the gap and forcing India to earn every point, but ultimately fell short in the closing stages.
With this win, India strengthened their standing in Pool C, while Pakistan ended the phase winless. The match also lasted 89 minutes and was watched by 600 spectators.
With the conclusion of Day 5, the tournament standings became clearer. Iran led Pool C undefeated with two straight wins (6 points), followed by India and Kazakhstan with one win each (3 points), while Pakistan sat without a win.
In Pool D, Turkmenistan bagged 4 points from two matches, Kyrgyzstan had 2 points from their single victory, and host nation Uzbekistan had yet to earn a point.
As the tournament approaches its final day on June 4, 2025, anticipation is building for the final classification and medal matches. Three fixtures are scheduled: the Classification Match for 5th–6th place at 10:00am local time, the Bronze Medal Match at 12:30pm, and the prestigious Gold Medal Match at 3:30pm, followed by the Closing Ceremony.
