Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick Gregorio and IOC Executive Board Member Mikaela Cojuangco Jaworski address the Board
The FIVB Board of Administration met yesterday in Manila, the Philippines, in conjunction with the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2025. The meeting covered a wide range of topics – from celebrating an extraordinary year of events to outlining ambitious initiatives that will shape the sport’s future.
Highlighting the meeting was the Board of Administration’s decision to award the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2027 to the USA and Canada, alongside the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2029 to Qatar. For the first time in history, the prestigious Volleyball World Championships will head to the USA, Canada and Qatar. Read more here.
The Board also welcomed two special guests: Patrick Gregorio, Chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission, and Mikaela Cojuangco Jaworski, IOC Executive Board Member, who both shared heartfelt remarks with the administration.
Chairman Patrick Gregorio stated:
“I was appointed Sports Chairman last July, and the hosting of the Men’s World Championship was just a few months away. I realised quickly that the FIVB is a very special International Federation. I feel the warmth, I feel the friendship, I feel the camaraderie, and I feel the love. So if there is an opportunity for us to welcome you again in the future, if there’s an opportunity for us to meet you at your international events and to visit you in your respective countries, I would be very happy to do so.”
IOC Executive Board Member Mikaela Cojuangco Jaworski said:
“The popularity of volleyball in the Philippines is exceptional. We play volleyball in school from the very beginning. It’s one of the first sports we play alongside basketball, and we find every opportunity to play. For Filipinos, volleyball is part of our lives. For you to be here and bring such a huge event to our country is so inspiring for fans in the Philippines. I cannot say thank you enough for coming. We hope it will get more Filipinos into sport, to dream and to strive for excellence.”
The addition of Wang Jingyu as an expert to the FIVB Communication Commission was also approved by the Board of Administration. Mr Wang is the All-Media Service Director of Xinhua News Agency’s Sports Desk, and his appointment to the commission follows the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding between the FIVB and Xinhua.
Beyond these key decisions, Board of Administration members received pre-reading materials covering major competitions, progress on key initiatives and innovations, and reports on key areas such as Volleyball Empowerment and NF Relations, Development and Sustainability, and the FIVB Volleyball Foundation. These updates were circulated in advance and open for questions during the meeting.
Additionally, reports were presented during the meeting on legal and financial updates, including the External Auditors’ Report Accounts 2024, the FIVB/VW Consolidated Accounts 2024 and the Budget for 2025–2026.
The next FIVB Board of Administration is set to take place online on 5 December 2025.
