Qatar’s superb duo Cherif Younes and Ahmed Tejan will start their participation in Rosarito, Mexico, the first-ever Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite 16 tournament which will feature a field of just 28 teams per gender (12 of which will start directly in the main draw) and generate epic battles from the first match to the last.
The event at Rosarito Beach will start with a 16-team qualifier on Wednesday. Just four teams per gender will progress to the main draw, with pool play following on Thursday. With just the best two teams in each of the four pools advancing to the elimination round, every single match will matter.
World ranking leaders Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan are also set for a difficult opening match in Pool A. The Tokyo Olympic bronze medallists will have tough opponents coming their way in the form of Brazilian Olympians Evandro Goncalves and Alvaro Filho. Evandro was a world champion in 2017 with Andre Loyola, and Alvaro won silver with Ricardo Santos and the World Championships in 2013.
The Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour is a unique sports and entertainment event where the fun is not only on the court but all around with live music and a festival like atmosphere to keep you entertained all day and night. Come for the sport and stay for the party! And then come back again for both!
Starting in just one month, the 2022 Beach Pro Tour will feature the top teams in the world and visit exciting venues on all continents. Mexico is first up in March, including stops in Tlaxcala and Rosarito.
The Beach Pro Tour will reach a climax at The Finals, featuring the superstars of the sport competing to be crowned champions of the premier international beach volleyball tour.
The Beach Pro Tour is split into three different levels. Elite16 is the highest level event on the tour, where the very best beach athletes compete to become champions. Challenge level tournaments feed into the Elite16 tournaments. Featuring 24 of the world’s best men’s and women’s teams, athletes fight for ranking points and the prize money on offer. Finally, the Futures level tournaments allow cities to develop the sport in their countries and build up the capabilities of promising up and coming stars.
Elite 16
Expect 16 teams per gender in the main draw. Pool play will feature four pools of four teams each and be followed by single elimination rounds. Five days of competition (including qualification) will feature a total of 32 Main Draw matches per gender.
Challenge
The Main Draw of the Challenge events will be played by 24 teams per gender (with 32 teams in qualification). Modified Pool play will be followed by single elimination rounds. Four (exception is Tlaxcala) days of competition will feature a total of 40 Main Draw matches per gender.
Future
Sixteen teams per gender will compete in the Main Draw at these events (and qualification include 16 teams). Modified pool play will be followed by single elimination rounds. A total of five days of competition will feature 28 matches per gender.
The Finals
The Finals are the ultimate finale to the Beach Pro Tour season featuring the best 10 teams in the world.
