SHAN LINQIAN LEADS CLASSY CHINA TO SENSATIONAL WIN AGAINST KAZAKHSTAN AND SEMI-FINALS

Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, June 11, 2022 – Indomitable China stormed into the semi-finals of the 14th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship at Nakhon Pathom Sports Center Gymnasium after brushing off the spirited Kazakhstan in convincing straight sets 25-12, 25-10, 25-15 on Saturday.

The first set saw the determined efforts of Kazakhstan to no avail, as the Chinese outfit came up in full strength. The Kazakhs put their acts together but still could not cope with the rivals’ tactics and went down to the much stronger opponents in a one-sided affair 12-25.

China, former four-time winners, remained irresistible in the next two sets as they performed superbly to come up with major weapons they had – impenetrable defence, solid blocks and powerful attacks, to capture both sets 25-10, 25-15 and match.

Shan Linqian chipped in with 18 points for China including 11 attacks and 6 blocks, while Sofiya Gorbacheva led Kazakhstan with 6 points.

With 12 points from four victories against Chinese Taipei, Philippines, India and Kazakhstan and only one loss to Japan, China completed the preliminary Pool B encounters in second place to book their semifinal berth and ticket to the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U19 World Championship. China will battle it out with the Pool A winners, either Korea or Thailand, in the Sunday’s semifinals.

Shan, the top scorer in this match, has set her team’s high hopes on capturing the Asian title, “To be champions, we need to play much better. We failed at some moments today and I was not satisfied with my players’ performance. Fortunately, we won and I am happy about it.”
