The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Beach Volleyball Tour is coming Down Under in 2023, as Mollymook on the NSW South Coast has been announced as the host of the Australian leg of the tour.
Running from 27 – 30 April 2023, the four-day volleyball festival will bring the top beach volleyball players in Asia to Australian shores to compete on the AVC Tour.
It will be the second time Volleyball Australia (VA) have brought a major event to Mollymook beach, after the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour held a successful event on the white sands in February 2022.
The NSW Government’s Regional Events Acceleration Fund has provided considerable support for the AVC Tour, which VA’s CEO Andrew Dee said will elevate the event in April next year.
“We’re very excited to be bringing the AVC Tour to Australian shores in 2023, as another major international event in our massive summer of beach volleyball,” Dee said.
“The South Coast community welcomed us with open arms when we held the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour on Mollymook Beach in February this year, and we look forward to returning next year.
“We thank the NSW Government for its support in hosting this event, and the Regional Events Acceleration Grant will allow us to put on an even bigger spectacle than last time, with an impressive Center-Court grandstand which will see the best beach volleyball athletes in Asia compete in front of an excited home crowd.”
Member for South Coast, Shelley Hancock MP said the AVC Tour will provide a vital stimulus boost for the South Coast region through increased visitation to town.
“I’m delighted to be able to put on such an iconic event for locals and visitors thanks to the Regional Events Acceleration Fund,” Mrs Hancock said.
“The funding will enable Volleyball Australia to install grandstand seating with the capacity to seat up to 500 people.
“The Asian Tour also features an event live site with food trucks and entertainment held each evening, increasing overnight stay and creating a festival atmosphere after the completion of competition.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said the Regional Events Acceleration Fund is supporting the growth of existing regional events and attracting new major domestic and international events to regional NSW.
“Money is rolling out right across regional NSW helping local events go from strength to strength and putting regional NSW on the map,” Mr Toole said.
“We know that hosting events in regional areas attracts visitors to towns, and those guests will spend money in local shops, grab a bite to eat at a local restaurant or café, and boost regional businesses and economies.
“Since its inception, the Regional Events Acceleration Fund has supported the delivery and development of 85 events, with more than one million visitors travelling to the regional areas where these events are held.”
