AUSTRALIAN VOLLEYBALL ACADEMY LAUNCHES ITS 2021 RECRUITMENT CAMPAIGN

Canberra, Australia, October 22, 2020 – The Australian Volleyball Academy has successfully launched its 2021 recruitment campaign, attracting over 100 athlete applications for its 2021 intake, Volleyball Australia reported in its news release on volleyballaustralia.org.au.

An integrated and holistic approach to athlete development, including training in both volleyball and beach volleyball, is a key feature of the AVA approach, based on the principle that training in one discipline will produce performance benefits in the other.

With the Australian Institute of Sport as its hub, the AVA program provides its athletes with world-class training and recovery facilities as well as a coaching staff with collectively over 100 years of international playing and coaching experience.

At the AVA hub in Canberra, athletes are supported by AIS medical, physio and sports science services. AVA athletes also have access to nutrition advice from the program’s accredited sports dietitian, and regular wellbeing sessions with Volleyball Australia’s Athlete Wellbeing Manager.

“It has been immensely positive to receive over 100 applications from across Australia for the AVA in 2021, said AVA Men’s Head Coach Brendan Garlick.

“It further highlights the new levels the program has reached in recent times and the knowledge that the AVA program represents the best development opportunity in Australia for athletes aspiring to senior international volleyball and beach volleyball careers.”

Women’s Volleyroos and AVA Head Coach Martin Collins is also excited at the extensive interest in the AVA for 2021, saying “There will be some very tough selections with such strong applications”.

“I really look forward to working with our new and returning athletes and to see all the aspiring volleyball players around the country competing when we can compete nationally again”.

There are up to 40 places available at the Australian Volleyball Academy for 2021: 20 for the Men’s program and 20 for the Women’s program.

The primary objective of the Australian Volleyball Academy (AVA) is to identify and develop Olympic potential athletes for Volleyball and Beach Volleyball. It is the High-Performance Development Program for volleyball and beach volleyball athletes who aspire to reach the elite level of their sport.
