AVC INTERNATIONAL REFEREE CANDIDATE COURSE ENDS SUCCESSFULLY IN THAILAND

Bangkok, Thailand, December 21, 2019 – The AVC International Referee Candidate Course at the FIVB Development Centre in Thailand came to a fruitful conclusion on Saturday, with 19 candidates passing the theoretical and practical tests given by Course Director and Chairman of the AVC Referees Committee Mr Songsak Chareonpong and Court Instructor and Committee Secretary Mr Takashi Shimoyama from Japan.

Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, President of Thailand Volleyball Association, and AVC Secretary-General Mr Shanrit Wongprasert jointly presided over the certificate presentation and the closing ceremony of the one-week course aimed at updating and assessing on the candidates’ knowledge and skills.

Mr Songsak said that the main objectives of the course, which started on December 15 and completed on December 21, was based on the Rules of the Games and Regulations to increase the quality of the referees, make the participants get through to the philosophy of refereeing and give them opportunities to share experience and updates among them. These candidates would gain experience, extend their knowledge and understanding in further development programmes they are planing to take part in the near future, and become well-qualified to get promoted to future FIVB international referees.

In his closing speech, Mr Shanrit said, “Congratulations to all of you for having the opportunity to participate in this course. Although today is the closing, we feel like this will mark the very first day for you to become international referees in the near future.

“In 2020, AVC will organise eight championships for indoor volleyball including U18, U19 and U20 events. Therefore, you benefit from this course, sharpen your skill and obtain more experience in your preparation for turning international referees. Truly speaking, to be successful in your career, you have to get yourself updated at all times with the rules of the game and new technology applied in volleyball. Furthermore, it is a must that you have to effectively use E-Scoresheet and understand the Video Challenge and relevant regulations. I hope that in the near future FIVB will conduct more international courses despite the fact that continental course like this will give you a good preparation to next attend the FIVB Refereeing Courses,” he added.
