Lausanne, Switzerland, May 24, 2019 – Bangkok has today been announced as the host of the 2020 FIVB World Congress, following Day 2 of the Board of Administration Meeting.
The candidature of Thailand was presented by the Thailand Volleyball Association and received the full support of the FIVB Board of Administration. The country has already hosted a number of high-profile sports gatherings, including the Asian Volleyball Confederation General Assembly in 2017.
Thailand is well known for its passion for volleyball and beach volleyball, having hosted a number of events in recent years, such as Satun staging an FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event for the second-straight season this year. The national women’s team of Thailand is also participating in the VNL for the second season and hosts one of the pools of the prestigious annual event.
Following the announcement, FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° said:
“We are delighted to welcome the global Volleyball Family to Bangkok, Thailand next year for the FIVB World Congress. The country is famous for its hospitality and passion for volleyball, so I believe it is a perfect place to stage this important gathering of the Volleyball Family.”
Day 2 of the FIVB Board of Administration meeting also included discussions on the FIVB content strategy and digital transformation, with the FIVB aiming to provide more digital content for fans from all over the world. The Board members also reviewed the proposed changes to the FIVB regulations, which were approved in full, and listened to updates on the FIVB’s upcoming events.
