BRAZIL POWER PAST AUSTRALIA IN STRAIGHT SETS

Reigning Olympic champions Brazil shut out Australia in a quick game to remain at the top of the standings after Day 12 of the 2021 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League in Rimini, Italy on Thursday.

Brazil cruised to a 25-17, 25-22, 25-12 win against Asian silver medallists Australia for their 11th victory at the 2021 VNL with 32 points, while the Volleyroos remained on the bottom of the standingS with 2 points from one win against 11 losses.

Mauricio Borges Almeida Silva and Isac Santos handed Brazil 11 points apiece, while Luke Smith led Australia with 11 points and Beau Graham assisted with 10.

Luke Perry of Australia said at the virtual Mixed Zone: “I think the difference in the end was experience. The first two sets we played okay. I think just one or two plays in defence. To Brazil’s credit they played very well in defence and at the end of the second set we lost one or two balls, and to the best team in the world you cannot give away small errors like this.”

Mauricio Silva of Brazil said: “This victory is very important for our team. We have a great group of players – if someone is needed, he enters the court and he tries to be perfect. We played well in many elements – in serve, defence. Everyone was ready to play and give his best and it’s our greatest strength. We have not only six players, but the entire group is very strong.”
