Bangkok, Thailand, March 6, 2020 – The threat of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has pushed the AVC Women’s Beach Volleyball Tour Can Tho Open organisers and hosts Vietnam to postpone the 2020 event.
The postponement of the annual event has arrived at the decision highlighting the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus crisis and come just one day after announcement of Thailand Volleyball Association to call off two major beach volleyball competitions comprising the Asian U19 Beach Volleyball Championships at Saphan Hin Park in Phuket between March 12 and 15 and the FIVB U19 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Roi Et from September 1 to 6.
As a result, the AVC Women’s Beach Volleyball Tour 2020 Can Tho Open, initially set to be held on April 20-23, will be postponed to October 24-28, 2020.
Last year, the tournament was held between April 19 and 22 at the beach volleyball area of the Can Tho Sports Complex in Ninh Kieu District, Vietnam and had attracted 21 teams from 11 countries and territories including Australia, China, Kazakhstan, Japan, Vanuatu, Thailand and Hong Kong China to vie for the top honour. Japanese Megumi Murakami/Miki Ishii beat Thailand’s Varapatsorn Radarong/Khanittha Hongpak 2-0 in the final showdown to capture the 2019 title.
