Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, June 6, 2022 – Chinese Taipei overpowered the Kazakhs in dramatic four-setter 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18 for their first win in Pool B at the 14th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the Nakhon Pathom Sports Center on Monday.
Chinese Taipei, which finished fifth in the previous edition in Nakhon Pathom in 2018, put their acts together and attacked well to win the first set 25-21 against Kazakhstan, which aimed to better their performance this time.
Chinese Taipei, fielding a strong line-up led by powerful Ssu-yu Chen, faced trouble closing out in the second set and lost 21-25 to Kazakhstan as the Kazakhs showed excellent teamwork and solid defence.
Chinese Taipei made a strong comeback to dominate the third set. The Taiwanese players came as a wonder with their exceptional tactics and form to win the set 25-19.
In the fourth set, Chinese Taipei gained the upper hand to take 8-6 lead, but Kazakhstan did not want to surrender easily. Still, Chinese Taipei continued to survive 25-18.
Player-cum-coach Mei-Ching Chen said, “My players are young and were nervous at some moments, so they lost the second set. Overall, they played very well. We will analyze today’s match of Japan and China to be able to beat the Chinese tomorrow”.
Mei-Ching Chen in her first coaching experience finished fifth with the women’s U18 team and is intending to make a step better in her second experience, “I hope we can be among the final four to earn the ticket for the World Championship”.
