Visakhapatnam, India, March 2, 2019 – Top seeds Chiyo Suzuki and Yurika Sakaguchi of Japan cleared their quarter-final hurdle on Saturday to lead the cast of semi-finalists for the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Vizag Open.
Chiyo and Sakaguchi earned their semifinal spot after a 2-0 (21-14, 21-16) win against their compatriots Satono Ishitsubo and Asami Shiba. The Japanese pair retained their unbeaten status in the tournament with three straight-set victories.
Second seeds Martina Bonnerova and Martina Maixnerova of the Czech Republic overwhelmed their rivals Tanna Aljoe and Melissa Fuchs in straight sets (21-11, 21-6).
Austrian sister duo Nadine and Teresa Strauss sailed through the semifinals following their 2-0 (21-10, 21-13) win over Noy Chorin and Noga Maor, while Vanuatu’s Miller Pata and Sherysyn Toko withstood the tough three-set encounter with the United States’ Audrey and Nicole Nourse (13-21, 21-12, 15-10).
On Sunday, the semi-final match between Chiyo/Sakaguchi and the Strauss twins will be played at 08.00 local time, followed by the confrontation between Pata/Toko and Bonnerova/Maixnerova at 09.00.
