Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, October 6, 2021 – Choco Mucho rebounded from the first-set loss to beat Rebisco in dramatic four sets 22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 in the all-Philippine 5th-8th playoff match in the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship at Terminal 21 Hall on Wednesday.
With the fantastic comeback win, Choco Mucho will next battle it out for the fifth place with Zhetysu, the team they went down in straight sets in their preliminary Pool A match earlier, while Rebisco received a bye in the 7th-8th playoff match to be assured of returning with the 7th place.
On Wednesday, Rebisco mixed the excellent offensive combination of spectacular spikes from Faith Janine Shirley Nisperos and scintillating blocks from Kamille Angelica Cal and Aleona Denise Manabat to take the close first set 25-22.
Rebisco marched on their good show in the second set. They put their acts together, hoping to finish the match with a straight-set win, but Choco Mucho turned things around to come up with quick attacks and solid defence, allowing their compatriots tough times scoring. Choco Mucho won the second set 25-17 for a 1-1 tie.
Choco Mucho’s great determination was handsomely rewarded in the next two sets, thanks to the solid blocks by Marivic Velaine Meneses and Dell Palomata. Choco Mucho went on their spectacular attacks and effective blocks to win the following sets 25-19, 25-17 and 3-1 match.
“This is a good chance for us to play for the 5th and we wanted this win but personally in my heart, I did not want Rebisco, the other Philippines team, to lose. My players have more experience and I expect them to perform better,” said Choco Mucho head coach Arthur Odjie Mamon.
“We played against Zhetysu in the preliminaries. I think, if my players show quality and play their best match of the day, we can beat Zhetysu,” he added.
