Participating teams were drawn in 10 Championships to be organised by AVC this year
Bangkok, Thailand, March 18, 2022 – The drawing of lots for 2022 Asian Volleyball Championships, conducted on Zoom to determine pool composition and match order, has been completed on Thursday.
AVC Secretary General Mr Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai presided over the drawing of lots ceremony, attended by participating countries and representatives from host countries. On behalf of AVC President Mrs Rita Subowo, he gave a welcome speech to all participants, citing that he appreciated kind support from all host countries and wished all participating teams the very best of luck in the competitions.
AVC Executive Director Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, himself former AVC Sports Events Council chairman, conducted the drawing of lots ceremony in Bangkok. Also present in the ceremony to assist him were three stuffs from AVC Headquarters comprising Ms Patana Kittichaisombat from AVC Volleyball Department, Ms Nattalida Sumdangdech from AVC Beach Volleyball Department and AVC Secretariat Director Ms Phenyada Fuengthanthip.
Ahead of the drawing of lots, Mr Shanrit confirmed the presence of representatives from all hosting countries consisting of Mr Yermek Syrlybayev (Kazakhstan), Mr Khusan Nasrullaev (Uzbekistan), Mr Amir Tolouekian (Iran), Mr Salah Janahi (Bahrain), SG Don Caringal (Philippines), Mr Chang Chin-Jong (Chinese Taipei), Ms Marina Tsui (Hong Kong, China) and Mr Kylych Sarbaghyshev (Kyrgyzstan).

Seedings in all championships have been made in serpentine system and according to the results of previous championships.
Six teams confirmed their participation in the 2022 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship, due to be held in Semey, Kazakhstan from April 24 to 30, 2022. Kazakhstan A, Kazakhstan B, Thailand, Iran, Japan and Uzbekistan will pit their expertise against one another in the single round-robin competition.
At the end of the first round, top two teams will battle it out for the eventual title, with the third- and fourth-ranked sides vying for the third place and bronze medal. According to the draw results on Thursday, Japan will take on Thailand in their first match on April 24, with two home teams, Kazakhstan A and Kazakhstan B, out to prove their ability. The other match on the same day sees Iran play Uzbekistan.
Kazakhstan’s Altay VC captured their crown following a 3-0 demolition of hosts Nakhon Ratchasima QminC VC in the final showdown at the previous edition last year in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. The one-week competition was held behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The second AVC competition to take place this year is the 2022 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship in Tehran, Iran from May 14 to 20, 2022. A total of eight teams will strut their stuff in the one-week-long tournament.
Iran A are in Pool A together with Thailand, Uzbekistan and Japan, with Qatar, Kazakhstan, Iran B and Iraq in Pool B. The first-day encounters on May 14 see Japan meet Thailand, Iran A take on Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan challenge Qatar and Iran B play Iraq.
At the previous episode last year in Thailand, Sirjan Foulad Iranian pulled off a dramatic 3-1 win against Qatar’s Al-Arabi in the final clash to capture the eventual title, the Iran’s 15th.
The 14th Asian Women’s U17 Volleyball Championship will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan between June 6 and 13, 2022, with Uzbekistan, Thailand, Korea, Australia and Iran in Pool A and Japan, China, Chinese Taipei, Philippines, India and Kazakhstan in Pool B.
The pool round-robin preliminaries will commence on June 6, with Australia taking on Iran, Thailand playing Uzbekistan, China setting up a 2018 showdown rematch with defending and consecutive seven-time champions Japan, Philippines challenging India and Kazakhstan up against Chinese Taipei.
The fourth AVC competition will return to Kazakhstan as Semey will host the 21st Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship from July 4 to 11, 2022, with 12 teams in total vying for the top honour.
Hosts Kazakhstan are in Pool A with Iran and Australia, while Pool B consists of Japan, Vietnam and Uzbekistan. China, Korea and Philippines are in Pool C, while Pool D comprises Thailand, Chinese Taipei and India.
The pool round-robin preliminaries will be held on July 4, with Australia set to take on Iran in their first match. On the same day, Vietnam will challenge title-holders Japan, 2018 silver medallists China play Philippines and India test their mettle against Chinese Taipei.
The fifth AVC tournament will return to Iran as Esfahan will host the 14th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship between August 15 and 22, with a large field of 13 teams strutting their stuff in the eight-day event.
Hosts Iran, Australia and Qatar had been drawn into Pool A, with Japan, India and Kuwait in Pool B. Pool C comprises Korea, China and Iraq, while Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka are in Pool D.
Australia will kick off their campaign against Qatar in the pool round-robin preliminaries on August 15. Also contesting their first matches that day are reigning and successive two-time winners Japan against India, China against successive two-time silver medallists Korea, Kazakhstan against Sri Lanka and Thailand against Chinese Taipei.
Bahrain will host the 21st Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship in Riffa from August 22 to 29, with a large number of 18 teams out to prove their talents.
The participating teams were divided into six pools of three teams apiece. Hosts Bahrain, Hong Kong, China and Saudi Arabia are in Pool A, with Iran, Japan and India in Pool B and Korea, Qatar and Kuwait in Pool C.
Thailand, Kazakhstan and the UAE had been drawn into Pool D, while Pool E consists of Iraq, Australia and Bangladesh and Pool F comprises China, Chinese Taipei and Pakistan.
According to the drawing of match order, Hong Kong, China will be the first hurdle Saudi Arabia have to clear on August 22, while Japan set up a tough test against defending champions Iran, 2018 silver medallists Korea take on Qatar, Thailand challenge Kazakhstan, Iraq take on Bangladesh and China play Pakistan.
Later, the 2022 AVC Cup for Women will be organised by Philippines from August 21 to 29, with 10 teams vying for the eventual crown. Hosts Philippines had been drawn into Pool A with Korea, China, Vietnam and Iran, while Japan, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei and Australia are in Pool B.
The first day in the pool round-robin preliminaries on August 21 proves action-packed encounters, with 2018 silver medallists Japan renewing their rivalry with old foes Thailand, Chinese Taipei playing Kazakhstan, defending and five-time champions China setting up a thrilling fight with Korea and Vietnam challenging hosts Philippines.
After successfully organising the 2018 edition, Taipei remains the battle ground for the 2022 AVC Cup for Men. Chinese Taipei will play host to the top-flight competition between August 7 and 14.
A total of 12 teams confirmed their participation in the intense eight-day event, with hosts Chinese Taipei, Bahrain and Thailand in Pool A. Iran, Korea and New Zealand are in Pool B, with Pool C consisting of Japan, Pakistan and Kazakhstan and Pool D comprising title-holders Qatar, Australia and Hong Kong, China.
Thailand are set to take on the host side on August 7, the very first day of the pool round-robin preliminaries. 2018 silver medallists Iran will test their mettle against New Zealand, while Pakistan are set to play Japan and Hong Kong, China to clash with Australia.
The last two championships will be held mainly for less-ranked sides in order that they can sharpen their skills and obtain valuable experience. The championships prove stepping stones for those teams to go up against much stronger rivals in future major competitions.
The 2022 AVC Women’s Challenge Cup will take place in Hong Kong, China from August 22 to 28, with seven teams striving for their maiden success in this tournament. The first two editions were cancelled so there is no seeding for the participating teams this time.
Hosts Hong Kong, China are set to clash with Macao and Malaysia in Pool A, with Mongolia, New Zealand, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka in Pool B.
Regarding the drawing of match order, Malaysia will take on Macao on the first-day match on August 22, while New Zealand will be pitted against Mongolia and Uzbekistan compete against Sri Lanka.
The 2022 AVC Men’s Challenge Cup has been regarded as the last tournament to be organised this year by AVC. The tournament will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan between August 28 and September 4, with seven teams chasing dreams of winning the eventual title.
Hosts Kyrgyzstan had been drawn into Pool A with the UAE and Mongolia, while Pool B comprises Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and Kuwait.
Hosts Kyrgyzstan will kick off their campaign against Mongolia on August 28. Also out to prove their competence on the first day of the eight-day meet are Sri Lanka and Kuwait, clashing with Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia respectively.
