Lausanne, Switzerland, February 17, 2020 – Following consultation between the FIVB, Chinese Volleyball Association and the relevant authorities, a joint decision has been made to postpone the FIVB Beach Volleyball 4-star event due to be held on 22-26 April in Yangzhou, China until after the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
The FIVB expresses its deepest sympathy and solidarity to the whole volleyball community in China, following the impact the coronavirus outbreak has had on the country, its people and the millions of passionate volleyball players and fans. We understand that China is taking all necessary measures to contain the outbreak, so that it can reassume its rightful place on the world volleyball stage as soon as possible.
The health and wellbeing of our athletes, officials and fans is our number one priority and so it was mutually decided that postponing the event to a later date was in the best interests of everyone involved. The FIVB will continue to carefully monitor the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, and will remain in regular consultation with Chinese authorities as well as global authorities, such as the World Health Organisation, to ensure that we always have the very latest information.
