Phuket, Thailand, December 11, 2021 – Phuket Governor Mr Narong Woonciew and Thailand Volleyball Association President Mr Somporn Chaibangyang jointly presided over the awards presentation and the closing ceremony of the 2021 FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships at Bang Tao Beach in Phuket, Thailand on Saturday, with AVC Executive Director Mr Shanrit Wongprasert and Mr Damrong Chaisena, Director of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) Office in Phuket Province, in attendance as guests of honour.
The top-flight competition took place from December 6 to 11, with team players from 48 countries vying for top men’s and women’s honours. After six days of exhausting battles in the scorching heat, France’s Teo Rotar and Arthur Canet and USA’s Megan Kraft and Delayne Maple shared the top honour after landing men’s and women’s titles respectively.
As Rotar and Canet reigned supreme in the men’s event, Thailand Netitorn Muneekul and Wachirawit Muadpha picked up silver and Brazil’s Nicolas Capretti Schosler and Samuel Giacomo Oselame Bello had to be content with bronze medal.
USA’s Megan Kraft and Delayne Maple dominated the women’s event, while Russia’s Olga Gavrilova/Alina Salmanova and Ukraine’s Anhelina Khmil/Tetiana Lazarenko claimed silver and bronze respectively.
At the end of the awards presentation and closing ceremony, Technical Delegate Mr Oguz Degirmenci from Turkey and Mr Kritsada Panaseri, Tournament Director thanked volunteers for their tireless devotion during the past six days and Mr Oguz and Referee Delegate Ms Maria Amelia Villas Boas Da Fonseca from Brazil pose for group photos with those volunteers.
Action on the sand courts in Phuket will continue next week with 2021 FIVB Beach Volleyball U21 World Championships being held from December 14 to 19.
