The FIVB’s investment in development support has increased by over 314% since 2012
The FIVB Development Commission held its annual meeting today to discuss the ongoing development support provided to National Federations worldwide.
The meeting was held in a hybrid format with the Commission President Mushtaque Mohammed and Secretary Zdeslav Barac joining from the FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. They were joined by the President of the Volleyball Empowerment Commission, Vladimir Grbic, and Secretary Ramon Suzara as observers.
During the meeting, the Commission highlighted the impact of the FIVB’s development support provided to National Federations since 2017. Overall, 642 projects from all five continents have been approved with 214 projects in Africa, 166 in Asia, 150 in Europe, 74 in NORCECA and 38 in South America. This accounts for a total investment of 16 million CHF.
These projects include 254 coach support projects with an investment of over 11 million CHF, 326 volleyball equipment projects totalling an investment of 4 million CHF, as well as 62 knowledge transfer programmes with a total investment of 300,000 CHF.
During the Commission meeting, FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:
“On the topic of incredible achievements, I am very proud to confirm that, under my leadership since 2012, the total development support provided via Continental Confederations, National Federations, Zonal Associations and Development Centres has increased by over 314%.”
“To be more precise, during the 10-year period from 1998 to 2007, development support totalled around 12 million USD. During my 10-year mandate as President of the FIVB, almost 50 million USD has been invested in development support.”
The Commission also talked about the contribution of Olympic Solidarity programmes, in addition to the support provided to Zonal Associations and FIVB Development Centres. The Commission also listened to the report on the FIVB’s e-learning and education programmes.
The FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Commission will meet on 2 February 2023.
