The FIVB President said: “We are very happy with the 2019 FIVB Volleyball World Cup. The ratings of the event, broadcasted by Fuji TV, are between 10-12% on average, which is great! The venues are packed both for the Japanese and non-Japanese matches. I believe that the fans here in Japan are not only excited to see the sport live, but also they are attracted by the way we are presenting the sport putting the fans close to the action.”

The FIVB President also explained his vision for creating dynamic and compelling television broadcasts, to sell the sport to existing and new Japanese fans. He emphasised the role of the entertainment elements, such as high-tempo music, atmospheric light shows and an MC to help fans follow the action. This strategy of fan engagement has been implemented all over the world, and President Graça spoke enthusiastically about bringing more of these elements to Japan.

After the meeting, President Ary Graça said: “In recent years, the image of volleyball has been revolutionised and we are now rightly recognised as one of the most engaging and exciting sports in the world. Our fan entertainment strategy ensures fans are engaged, whether in the stadium or watching around the world, and this undoubtedly brings more value to our events. For many years, we have valued our great relationship with Fuji TV and I look forward to many more years of successful cooperation.”

Mr. Endo agreed on the points expressed by the FIVB President. He shared the views on the importance of sport and media working together for mutual benefit and the need for modernisation of Japanese volleyball bringing more innovation to the sport in the country.
