Potential of volleyball in the country discussed with the National Federation’s leadership
FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° praised the great organisation of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) Finals in Ankara, Türkiye following exciting quarterfinal action which took place in a packed arena with over 11,000 spectators cheering for the home team.
During Friday’s match-free day in Ankara, the FIVB President took the opportunity to visit the Türkiye Volleyball Federation’s offices and facilities, and discuss the potential of volleyball in the country with its President, Akif Üstündağ. The two leaders also explored Türkiye’s ambition to boost the development of men’s volleyball, in addition to beach volleyball and snow volleyball national teams.

Joined by FIVB 2nd Executive Vice-President and European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) President Aleksandar Boričić, the FIVB leader also visited the National Federation’s volleyball facilities, including the courts, volleyball high school and dormitory. He also had an opportunity to meet Türkiye’s national women’s volleyball team during their training session ahead of their semi-final against Italy on 16 July.

Earlier this week, the FIVB President watched the quarterfinal matches in the 11,000-packed arena which saw the home team advance to semi-finals alongside Brazil, Serbia and Italy. The home nation’s match was also attended by Türkiye’s Minister of Youth and Sport, Mr Muharrem Kasapoğlu, who was pleased to welcome the FIVB President to the country.
“I am extremely pleased to be in Ankara for the excellent VNL Finals. The Türkiye Volleyball Federation has so far done an excellent job hosting the event and it is incredible to see such a passionate and loyal fanbase here in the country. Volleyball is so popular here that fan zones with giant screens were organised in many cities, including in Ankara, Istanbul and Antalya, to give local fans an opportunity to watch the sport and cheer for their idols.
“Even more fans are tuning into exciting VNL action on TV. On Thursday, the quarterfinals were the number one sports event on TV and among the top 15 events (out of 100) broadcasted at the same time according to the country’s TV ratings.”
