Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, September 8, 2022 – As the 2nd ASEAN Grand Prix Women’s Volleyball Invitation is set to kick off on Friday, September 9 at the 5,000-seater Chartchai Hall here, five referees who will officiate in this three-day tournament have been unveiled on Thursday.
Four strong teams from Southeast Asia – Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines and hosts Thailand arrived in host province Nakhon Ratchasima on September 7, ready to renew their rivalries and vie for top honour and cash prizes.
As Vietnam, Indonesia and Philippines are taking part in the 2nd ASEAN Grand Prix Women’s Volleyball Invitation with aims of sharpening their skills apart from learning tactics and techniques with each other, Thailand will make it a final tune up tournament in their preparation for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Poland and Netherlands between September 23 and October 15, 2022.
Ahead of the official kickoff of the 2nd edition of the ASEAN Grand Prix at Chartchai Hall, five referees including one reserve who will be on their duty from September 9 to 11 have been announced on Thursday. They are as follows.
- Mr Indra Muflih (accompanying referee from Indonesia)
- Ms Jocelyn Del Rosario (accompanying referee from Philippines)
- Ms Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen (accompanying referee from Vietnam)
- Mrs Sasiprapa Pimthongkhonburi (accompanying referee from Thailand)
- Mr Bantom Pimthongkhonburi (accompanying referee from Thailand, reserve)
On Thursday, these referees attended the Referee & VIS Clinic, theoretically and practically. Referee Delegate Mr Songsak Chareonpong from Thailand, himself AVC Referees Committee Chairman, instructed them in the morning theoretical session at the meeting room inside the Chartchai Hall. Joining the meeting were Court & Referee Managers & Supervisors, Announcers, Scorers, Line judges, Moppers, Ball retrievers and VIS staff.
The clinic had been designed to get these active referees well-prepared fro the three-day tournament and provide them necessary information on rules and regulations, match control techniques as well as introduction to any proposed changes for 2022 and their awareness and response to the Challenge System.
Later in the afternoon practical part of the Referee & VIS Clinic, those who attended the theoretical session earlier had been assigned to officiate at a match performed by two demonstration teams. This was to improve the referees’ decision making and their quality of officiating while all of them are on duty during the matchdays between September 9 and 11.
