Manama, Bahrain, May 13, 2023 – Team managers and staff coaches from 16 teams participating in the Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship in Manama from May 14 to 21 gathered in the four-star Gulf Court Hotel on Saturday to hear the rules and regulations and the Challenge System in the General Technical Meeting.
Mr Shaikh Ali Bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa, President of Bahrain Volleyball Association, and Control Committee Chairman Mr Emil Jabbour jointly presided over the General Technical Meeting, with 16 AVC-nominated referees, the organizers and staff coaches and representatives from 16 teams in attendance.
Two neutral referees from Bahrain, Ali Abdulhameed Abdulnabi and Mohamed Hasan Khatam who are the AVC Candidate Referees, were nominated by the AVC as the reserved referees to add to their experience following the request of the host organizer.
Mr. Shaikh Ali Bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa gave a welcome speech to all the participating teams, wishing them a nice stay in Manama and the very best of luck in their competition. He found this tournament a very important sporting event as it will be a Qualifier to the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship in India, from December 4 to 10.
The meeting was held to check if all is set for the eight-day championship, which will simultaneously take place at the 2500-seater Issa Bin Rashed in hall 1 and hall 2.
Sixteen club teams are set to strut their stuff in the eight-day championship, vying for the only Asian spot on offer for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship. The participating teams comprise Al Ahli Sport Club (hosts Bahrain), Canberra Heat (Australia), Korean Air Jumbos Pro-Volleyball Club (Korea), and Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi (Indonesia) in Pool A, South Gas Sports Club (Iraq), Shahdab Yazd (Iran), Kam Air (Afghanistan) and Taichung Bank (Chinese Taipei in Pool B.
Pool C consists of Bayankhongor Crowned Geo VC (Mongolia), Diamond Food Fine Chef-Air Force (Thailand), Suntory Sunbirds (Japan) and Khaypil Sports Club (Yemen), while Aspiring Volleyball Team (Hong Kong, China), Police Sports Team (Qatar), Kuwait Sporting Club (Kuwait) and Atyrau VC (Kazakhstan) in Pool D.
All teams will compete in pool round-robin preliminaries, with top two teams from each pool advancing to the round of top eight teams. Teams finishing third and fourth places in each pool will contest the classification round for 9th-16th places.
