Volleyball and beach volleyball communities celebrate the Let’s Move initiative

The FIVB and global Volleyball Family today join the world in celebrating Olympic Day, a momentous occasion that promotes the Olympic spirit and inspires millions to embrace the values of excellence, friendship and respect.

This year, as Olympic Day reaches its 75th anniversary, the focus is on the theme Let’s Move, encouraging people worldwide to prioritise daily physical activity and build a new global movement for a more active lifestyle. The significance of this initiative is heightened by recent research revealing that over 80 per cent of young individuals fail to meet the recommended daily activity level for optimal mental and physical health.

With an extensive fanbase of over 800 million, the FIVB strives to encourage active participation in volleyball and beach volleyball as part of a healthy and active lifestyle.

Volleyball and beach volleyball have garnered immense success and popularity at the Olympic Games, captivating audiences around the globe. Volleyball made its debut at the Olympic Games in Tokyo 1964, swiftly becoming one of the most highly anticipated and hottest tickets at the Games. Most recently, volleyball returned to its Olympic birthplace for Tokyo 2020, with electrifying action engaging fans across the world.

Beach volleyball, introduced 32 years later at the Atlanta Games in 1996, has consistently remained a fan favourite. The sport captivated countless fans during the Rio 2016 Games, with an astounding 99.9 percent of available tickets for volleyball and beach volleyball sold, making them the most watched sports in terms of viewer hours according to the IOC Data Report.
