Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, January 6, 2020 – The General Technical Meeting was held at the Orapim Room of Sima Thani Hotel to finally confirm matters of competition, refereeing, press, VIS, etc set for the opening of the 2020 AVC Women’s Tokyo Volleyball Qualification at Chartchai Hall from January 7 to 12 to decide the only berth to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The FIVB Technical Delegate Mr Ramon Suzara, AVC Vice President & Secretary General Mr. Shanrit Wongprasert and Vice Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima City Mr Apinan Phuekphang jointly presided over the meeting, which saw representatives from team Australia, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Korea, Chinese Taipei and the hosts Thailand as well as Control Committee Members, international referees, Local Organizing Committee members and journalists in attendance.
In his opening address, Mr Apinan Phuekphang welcomed all the officials, participating teams and referees and promised to provide the best service during the tournament. He wished all teams the best success and best of luck .
Mr Ramon Suzara later welcomed everybody to the very important Qualification Tournament on behalf of FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça and he wished the best success to all the seven participating teams.
After the speeches and presentation of officials, referees and teams’ representatives, Mr Ramon Suzara reported on the eligibility of players and team officials, dress uniformity for officials on bench, team movements upon completion of the match as well as other important matters including choice of colours for match uniform, team spectator seating, team statisticians and communication between team bench and team statisticians.
Referee Delegate Mr Takashi Shimoyama from Japan explained Rules of the Games to be applied, match protocol and especially the challenge system, as the system of new technology is not so familiar to most of the teams and referees.
Medical Delegate Mr Rueangsak Siriphol briefed the court medical assistance and anti doping control issues while Press Delegate Mr Wang Liang informed about the pre-match press conference and post-match press interviews. He asked for teams’ kind cooperation for Host
Broadcaster’s flash interview at the court-side and press interview at the mixed zone .
Mr Shanrit Wongprasert added the copyright protection for the Host Broadcaster and informed other media to apply highlights from the Host Broadcaster. He closed the General Technical Meeting with thanks again to the teams and organizers for their support and cooperation.
Early in the afternoon, FIVB and AVC officials made the final venue inspection and conducted a practice rehearsal to confirm the readiness of all functions.
In the evening, FIVB and AVC officials, all participating team players, officials, distinguished guests and media gathered in the Grand Ballroom for the welcome dinner. After the welcome speech by Vice Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima City Mr Apinan Phuekphang, Thailand Volleyball Association President Mr Somporn Chaibangyang joined him on the podium to present the souvenirs to each team and FIVB and AVC officials. The welcome dinner started along with Thailand folklore performances, and came to a happy ending with everybody enjoying the show.
The real battle of the 2020 AVC Women’s Tokyo Volleyball Qualification will kick off at 13:00 Tuesday on January 7th at the Chartchai Hall, seeing Iran challenge Kazakhstan in Pool B followed by the encounter between Korea and Indonesia at 15:30.
In Pool A, hosts Thailand will meet Chinese Taipei at 18:00 to launch their pursuit for the only ticket to Tokyo, while Australia will have a bye as there are only three teams in Pool A. After 3-day pool round-robin preliminaries, only top two teams from each pool will advance to the crosswise semi-finals. The final showdown will be held on January 12th to decide who will get the Daruma and the only ticket to Tokyo.
Nakhon Ratchasima is commonly known as Korat, a shortened form of its name. It is the governmental seat of the Nakhon Ratchasima Province and Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima District. Name after former Prime Minister of Thailand, Chatichai Choonhavan, the 5,000-seated Chartchai Hall was built for the Southeast Asian Games in 2007 and also once held the FIVB Volleyball Nations League in 2018 as the home court for Thailand Women’s Team.
