The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) announced on May 31 that the Qatari beach volleyball team of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan made a big leap in the international standings, as they came in fourth overall with 5,520 points behind Norway, Russia, and Brazil.
The Qataris picked up silver in the Sochi World Tour 4-Star event, which recently concluded in Russia with the participation of 62 teams from 27 countries. Qatar lost the final 1-2 to Poland. The Qatari team qualified for the upcoming postponed Olympic Games in Tokyo, where they will rank third.
The Qatari team had already won the gold medal in the third event of the three back-to-back Beach Volleyball World Tour events in Cancun, Mexico at the beginning of May. The team also claimed silver in the first and second events in Cancun.
